“Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace…” With these words, then U.S. President Richard Nixon would have informed television viewers in 1969 that the first manned moon landing had failed. It’s clear that it didn’t – but Halsey Burgund’s and Francesca Panetta’s project “In Event of Moon Disaster” demonstrates particularly vividly that today more than ever, a critical look at audiovisual content is necessary. The Ars Electronica Festival 2021 not only presented their project in the STARTS Prize exhibition in Linz, but the artists also gave online festival visitors a brief insight into their work with this “AI Lab Journey”.

This video was part of the online offerings of the 2021 Ars Electronica Festival. We’re posting a selection of them online here at the Ars Electronica Blog.

This video was presented in the framework of the European ARTificial Intelligence Lab, which is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport.
