On March 29, 2017, 7PM the touring exhibition “Beyond the Lab: The DIY Science Revolution” will start at the Ars Electronica Center. It is the centerpiece of the project SPARKS, which is an ambitious awareness-raising and engagement European project (Horizon 2020-funded) that aims at promoting the concept of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) amongst citizens and other stakeholders in 29 European countries (28 Member States of the European Union and Switzerland).

Beyond the Lab tells the stories of a growing number of ‘DIY scientists’ around the world who are busily hacking, experimenting and inventing in the field of healthcare. In addition to seven personal science stories, the three works produced by artists in Residence at the Ars Electronica Futurelab last year are shown: Agent Unicorn by Anouk Wipprecht (NL), BeBots by Jakob and Lea Illera (AT) and The Institute of Isolation of Lucy McRae (UK).

The exhibition is accompanied by an attractive participation-oriented event program in the form of Science Espressos – short science fairs and workshops. The aim is to give the interested public as well as local actors from the health and medical fields the opportunity to listen, to ask questions, to identify new topics and to find answers to still unsolved problems.

More information about the exhibition can be found here.
