Robot Tile
“Robot Tile” enables you to make real strides as you advance through virtual realities. On these robotic plates, you can proceed in any direction you like and still remain on one spot. Your actual physical motion imparts the feeling of being inside the virtual world instead of it just passing by before your eyes.
The individual tiles can move forwards, backwards and sideways. The exact positions of the tiles as well as of the installation user’s feet are registered by a Kinect camera. A computer manages the entire system and manipulates the plates to move in the opposite direction in which the user is walking so that he/she always remains on the same spot.
