BOZAR explores the role of scientific and technological research as an engine for creativity. The meeting of science, technology and the arts is the favoured basis for finding innovative responses to the social, ecological, and economic challenges that Europe will be facing in the near future. BOZAR joins the Ars Electronica Festival with its own interpretation of the Kepler’s garden, through the curation of 3 online events under umbrella name „Speculating on the future“.

Speculating on the Future

Through collaborations between art, science, technology, and artificial intelligence, we speculate about the future, as we look for new opportunities for a better future. Science, Technology and Arts form a nexus with an extraordinarily high potential for creative innovation. The role of artists is no longer just about propagating scientific and technological knowledge and skills among the general public but much more as a kind of catalyst that can inspire and trigger innovative processes.

As one of the historical partners of the Ars Electronica Center, BOZAR presents a series of 3 online events happening at the Centre for Fine Arts, digitally connected to the main Festival in Linz. On 9 September we will host a STARTS Talk inviting the public to reflect on the ultra-technological and connected „smart city“, and the role of artistic practice within this process. A second talk will take place on 12 September, “Genetic Biotech through the eyes of artists”. In the light of current debates on the use of genetic modification, we invite the public to a guided tour in the most fascinating labs in Europe (VIB, Flanders), guided by 2 artists of the Studiotopia art&science programme. Finally, BOZAR will also take part in the AI x Music Festival on 13 September. Live coding expert and drummer Dago Sondervan (BE) and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Claes (BE) team up for an experimental exploration of artificial intelligence in music performance.
