The Science Gallery Garden at the Ars Electronica Festival will explore trust, technology, global challenges, arts innovation and new forms of digital storytelling. A showcase from the world’s only university network dedicated to public engagement with science and art, it will feature interactive workshops, experimental audio and visual experiences, livestreamed events and a specially-curated digital archive.

Igniting Creativity and Discovery where Science and Art Collide

In 2015, Detroit became the first and only city in the United States to receive the City of Design designation from UNESCO. This recognition was bestowed on Detroit for the city’s rich history as a centre of design and creativity. To honour and promote the designation, September is now celebrated as Detroit Month of Design.

Speaking to this, Science Gallery Detroit is proud to launch its third annual exhibition, FUTURE PRESENT: Design in a Time of Urgency, during Detroit Month of Design. Made possible by Science Sandbox and MSUFCU, the exhibition will open in downtown Detroit at 1001 Woodward on Friday, September 11 and run through December 11, 2020. FUTURE PRESENT will explore humanity’s nuanced relationship to various forms of design and the impact it has on the future. Further, the exhibition will illustrate three key themes as it relates to design: the impact of technology on society; design and systemic change; and creating participatory design processes for a sustainable future.‘
