Moon Jelly Flow

Moon Jelly Flow pulls source material from real “wellness content” released online by zoos and aquariums to create a satirical guided meditation for a simulated jellyfish tank. The work explores technology’s ability to extend “access to nature” while also sterilizing the human understanding of the natural world as it is experienced through the screen.

Moon Jelly Flow points out moments of hypocrisy and contradiction in this trend of using live-streamed animals for meditative visualizations.

Sarah Brophy’s video installations create sensory experiences that consume space in unexpected ways and test the transcendental capabilities of technology. Her work critically explores the social/political impact of computing technology on society, often for what gets lost or gained in the transfer from physical object to intangible pixel in the simulation of natural phenomena.
