(Linz, 7.10.2019) It is 168 metres long, 72.5 metres wide and covers an area of 12,000 square metres. Approximately 8 tons of paint and 400 tons of water were processed over a period of 6025 days resulting in the largest Buddha image ever created. Thursday, 10.10.2019, the project will be presented by the Taiwanese Zen meditation master Hung Chih-Sung at Deep Space LIVE. Start is at 7 p.m.
Hung Chih-Sung
Born in Taiwan, Hung Chih-Sung is not only a recognized painter and calligrapher, but also a Zen meditation master. He began working on the huge Buddha picture 17 years ago in response to the destruction of two gigantic Buddha statues from the 6th century by the Afghan Taliban.
Deep Space LIVE
Every Thursday, 7 p.m. (except public holidays), the Ars Electronica Center invites you to a Deep Space LIVE. High-resolution images in 16 by 9 meter format will be combined with expert commentary, entertaining double conferences and musical improvisation. Whether it’s art-historical tracing, space flight, a voyage of discovery into the nanoworld or a LIVE concert – Deep Space LIVE stands for enlightening entertainment amidst impressive visual worlds. Admission costs €3. With a valid museum ticket, the visit is free of charge.
