Veronika Liebl, Managing Director, Ars Electronica and Karla Spiluttini, Producer STARTS Prize, Ars Electronica dedicate the fifht edition of Inside Festival to the topic of “Microcosmos and Macrocosmos” and present a total of four projects that address the topic from different perspectives.

The Ars Electronica online Festival Garden Atacama, organized by Fundación Mustakis / ALMA will present a web learning platform within the festival, that brings together more than 50 references about our contemporary understanding of landscape with the title “Talking About Landscape in the 21st Century”. At the same time, Samuel Domínguez (CL/GB) has created an exclusive digital intervention for the CCTV cameras in ALMA Observatory. The live video will be broadcasted during the festival’s dates.

Interspecifics (INT) are an independent artistic research studio founded in Mexico City and the winners of the AI Lab Residency SETI x AI1. With their project Codex Virtualis, they aim to build a systematic collection of AI-generated hybrid organisms that will emerge as a result of speculative symbiotic relationships between microorganisms and algorithms.

The Garden Bologna, with the title “Data Tour d’Italie”, curated by Federico Bomba and Filippo Rosati, is a network and a project on data and environment, connecting cultural and scientific research centers from different Italian geographical areas: mountains, cities, islands and seaside towns. For this edition of “Inside Festival” they will present the work “Moss” from Marco Barotti. The kinetic sound sculpture is a dome overgrown with moss, its movement is driven by readings of nitrogen oxide concentrations at various locations on our planet.

Our youth perspective of this edition introduces Vernie, the LEGO BOOST ROBOT, that was programmed to enable it to waltz. The ides was created by Sarah Hölzl. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, people were not able to attend dancing lessons or go to a disco. But because dancing is much more fun with a partner, the robot has become the dance partner. Why should robots only be used for work?
