They were already artists, designers and hackers when they started ART+COM over 30 years ago and dedicated themselves to the interdisciplinary perspective of art, design and technology. Joachim Sauter (1959-2021) was one of the founders and told us at the 2017 Ars Electronica Festival theme conference about how ideas became fields of research. With “Computational Reflectives,” ART+COM is dedicated to installations that primarily make use of light and its reflections. With “Kinetics” they have created installations that can be experienced away from screens in real space. The entire panel “Art Science: From Vision to Practice,” led by Prof. Hiroshi Ishii of the MIT Media Lab Tangible Media Group, is available on our YouTube channel.
