Regional S+T+ARTS Centers III: Repairing the Present

Twelve Regional S+T+ARTS Centers came together with a common mission: Repairing the Present. To address the unintended consequences of steadfast technological development resulting in the present social, economic, and environmental challenges, the Regional S+T+ARTS Centers hosted 21 artist residencies and tapped into the potential of artists to act as catalysts for change.

The challenges addressed in the project were pan-European or global, yet the solutions required a focus on local specificities. Thus, the Regional S+T+ARTS Centers tried to think globally but act locally.

Ars Electronica focused on the value chain of the plastics industry concentrated in Upper Austria. Through the residency Circular Futures, Ars Electronica tried to boost the region’s cross-industry research into developing sustainable and environmentally friendly systems for plastics production with the creative input of artists and designers.

Artists Kat Austen and Fara Peluso were hosted and supported in developing their project Ouroboros.
