Sustainable AI Conference 2023 – Sustainable AI Across Borders

When Art meets Science: Fostering new Forms of Collaboration

The Bonn Sustainable AI Lab at the University of Bonn’s Institute for Science and Ethics organises the second Sustainable AI Conference. This iteration will focus on cross cultural perspectives to address the variety and scope of ethical issues on a global scale. An inspiration for the theme “Sustainable AI Across Border” is to acknowledge the reality that certain countries play an integral role in the early production phase and the waste management of this technology but may never experience the benefits of AI.

Type: Panel Discussion
Conference: 30.05.2023 to 01.06.2023
Panel: 31.5.2023 from 15:00-16:00
City, Country: Bonn, Germany
Venue: Sustainable AI Conference, Wolfgang-Paul-Saal im Universitätsclub Bonn e.V., Konviktstr. 9, 53113 Bonn, Germany

Panelists: Špela Petrič (Deutsche Telekom ArtScience Resident 2023), Irakli Sabekia (Deutsche Telekom ArtScience Resident 2022), Nathalie Hoyos (Office for Art, Curator Art Collection Deutsche Telekom), Martin Honzik (CCO, Ars Electronica) and Prof. Aimee van Wynsberghe (Sustainable AI Lab)

Engagement with artists and designers has been at the heart of the Sustainable AI Lab’s work since its inception, so the conference will also feature artworks created by ArtScience Resident Irakli Sabekia and Špela Petrič in collaboration with the Sustainable AI Lab.
A special highlight of the conference will be the panel discussion on ArtScience cooperation on 31st May at 3pm. Prof. Aimee van Wynsberghe and lab manager Charlotte Bander will be joined on stage by Martin Honzik, Nathalie Hoyos and ArtScience residency winners Špela Petrič and Irakli Sabekia, to discuss the benefits and challenges of art science cooperation: What can art and academia learn from each other? How can artistic expression help in science communication and what do artists stand to gain from working together with researchers?

The talks and panels will be on site in Bonn as well as online.

The ArtScience Residency is enabled by the Deutsche Telekom in partnership with Ars Electronica and the support of Sustainable AI Lab of the University Bonn.
