Everyday Rebellion – The Art of Change is a cross-media documentary about creative forms of nonviolent protest and civil disobedience around the world.
What connects Occupy in New York, the Spanish Indignados, and the Arab Spring? Are there links between Iran’s democracy movement, nonviolent resistance in Syria, Ukrainian Femen activists, and protests in Egypt, Serbia, or Turkey?
Though the causes of these uprisings differ, the tactics—creative, peaceful, and often humor-infused—are strikingly similar and mutually inspiring. Everyday Rebellion portrays passionate activists from Spain, Iran, Syria, Ukraine, the U.S., U.K., and Serbia who believe that nonviolence is more effective than violent protests—a claim backed by research.
This project is a tribute to the imagination of nonviolent resistance and gives voice to those who challenge violent systems through peaceful means. As Gandhi once said: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
