Immerse Yourself in the Past

As one of the main installations in the Past section of the LABOUR LAB, this virtual reality experience invites visitors to immerse themselves in the working world of the 19th century. In an atmospheric staging, a window in time opens onto the early industrial era: Several virtual rooms depict life and work of that period—cramped factory halls, modest living quarters, hard physical labor, and limited prospects.
The 3D environments were created in collaboration with the Museum Arbeitswelt to combine historical accuracy with emotional immediacy. Interactive puzzles playfully convey knowledge that unfolds through experience. The technical implementation was carried out by Smesh, an experienced studio for immersive media. The collaboration with Ars Electronica Solutions has proven its worth—a creative exchange at the intersection of design, technology, and education.
