No panic! How to develop resilience and train the social brain

Tania Singer (DE)

What if we could actually train our brains to be more empathic, compassionate, and resilient? In this talk, social neuroscience pioneer Tania Singer invites us to explore the science of the “social brain”—and how targeted mental training can spark profound changes in the way we think, feel, and connect.

In her talk, Tania Singer will propose ways to address some of the most pressing problems of our time: increasing loneliness and mental health issues, along with polarization and the breakdown of social cohesion. From a social neuroscience perspective, she will show how mental training programs can cultivate empathy, compassion, and perspective-taking, illustrating their positive effects on brain plasticity, resilience, well-being, and prosocial behavior. Her talk will demonstrate how we can train to foster resilience, social cohesion, and social skills—providing examples of how science-based, low-dose online programs are being implemented to benefit schools, healthcare, and society at large.
