Pre-Opening Walk

The Pre-Opening Walk offers a unique opportunity to explore seven key venues of Linz’s vibrant art scene before the official start of the Ars Electronica Festival—and to engage directly with both international and local artists.

The route begins at the Upper Austrian Art Association and continues through the Francisco Carolinum, Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz, University of Arts Linz, Atelierhaus Salzamt, and Ars Electronica Center, before concluding at the Stadtwerkstatt. At each stop, curators and artists provide exclusive insights into their exhibitions, artistic practices, and programs—a compelling preview of the festival days ahead.

Set the tone for your festival experience with exhibition openings, award-winning media art, playful sound performances, experimental mixed-reality and AI-based works, piano music in dalog with digital imagery, and thought-provoking interventions. Despite its rich program, this much-anticipated walk through Linz—now a fixture of the festival—also leaves room to reconnect with familiar faces and forge new connections. Admission is free.
