Theater of the World

Festival Theater of the World, Düsseldorf 2021

For three weeks, artists from all continents transformed the festival center in Düsseldorf’s Theater into a public performance space: with the program in the World Foyer, they invited visitors to encounter, lecture, sound session, film, conversation, and DJ sets.

With visual artist and musician Stefan Schneider and media artist and musician Chris Bruckmayr, two strong signatures shaped the Weltfoyer program. Chris Bruckmayr, representing Ars Electronica Solutions, curated the program track Gloomy and Glamourous – Female and non-binary DJs from all over the world as guests.

Musical acts from Jordan, Japan, Serbia, Spain, Germany, Russia, Peru and Canada, among others, electrified the musical soul of their homeland in the Weltfoyer and made it resound for the audience. The program of the twelve musicians from all continents was a statement. It offered a broad overview of the range and creativity of female artists in the originally male-dominated electronic music scene. Inspired by local musical traditions, classical, techno and all other styles of electronic music, the DJs transformed the Weltfoyer into the city’s first “post-pandemic” club venue.
