ART-O-MAT as a digital mediation tool

The ART-O-MAT offers a way to experience creative processes and transcend traditional boundaries in art. Using machine learning and sophisticated algorithms, unique styles and personalized artworks are generated,

allowing users to explore new creative dimensions. Artists can use the device as a creative tool to expand their design process and gain new perspectives.

Since the end of April 2025, the ART-O-MAT, a digital mediation tool at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, has been inviting visitors to become active themselves. By immersing themselves in the creative process, they can directly experience the connection between technology and art.

This creates a dialogue between man and machine and the opportunity to generate your own works of art and directly experience the creative potential of artificial intelligence.

The ART-O-MAT also raises questions:

  • How are images created today and in the future?
  • Who owns these images?
  • Can we trust the images generated by artificial intelligence?

These questions stimulate the discussion about the role of artificial intelligence in art and take a look at the future of creative processes. Above all, the interactive installation offers a playful and entertaining experience that is accessible to people of all ages.

As a prototype, the ART-O-MAT was already a highlight at the Ars Electronica Festival, where over 1,500 small works of art were created and the creative potential of the technology became visible.
