Ars Electronica Solutions is making a significant mark in the digital art landscape with the opening of the second Deep Space in China, located in the M511 complex in Hangzhou, following the first one at the West Bund Museum in Shanghai.
This immersive projection space offers an exceptional platform for a wide range of artistic and interactive experiences.
In the new Deep Space, visitors have the opportunity to experience impressive projections and interactive applications that link media art, cultural heritage, and science communication. Notably, unlike its counterpart in Linz, the Deep Space Hangzhou is designed more like a theater. With comfortable theater seating and performances by actors, it creates an intimate and engaging atmosphere.
The close collaboration with local artists and the incorporation of regional cultural elements are also emphasized. The opening on October 1, 2024, featured the exclusive concert “A Space Odyssey,” followed by the performance “AI Rhapsody: Together with Stars,” showcasing digital artworks from around the globe.
The M511 complex itself, beautifully situated in the Xi Xi Valley, was formerly home to the Zhejiang Film Center and has now been transformed into a multifunctional hub for digital content and immersive experiences. With three buildings focusing on different creative aspects, the Deep Space is one of the first projects of the new cultural center, uniquely combining art and technology. The vision behind Deep Space is to ignite the imagination of visitors and provide them with unforgettable experiences.
