The view of the Earth from space is the only perspective that allows us to observe changes on our planet. To demonstrate the relevance and value of Earth observation in terms of environmental and socio-economic benefits, the journey takes us to current issues around climate change with a virtual presentation. Satellite images provide the impressive views of the Earth that document and evaluate the changes.
Ars Electronica Linz has been cooperating successfully with the European Space Agency (ESA) for several years. In this context, Ars Electronica Solutions has implemented various projects for the ESA’s Earth Observation Program in Frascati, Italy. In the past, “Φ-Experience” was developed and set up as a lead project. Today, this multimedia center forms one of the essential pillars for the visualization of Earth observation data.
The goal of the “Φ-Experience” is to use interactive technologies to increase the visibility of the multiple applications of satellite data. In particular, the benefit of Earth observation is in the foreground here with a focus on presenting the latest data on climate change as well as understanding global change.Based on the technologies developed for the “Φ-Experience”, a deep space application with a real-time projection of satellite data onto an 8-meter Earth is currently being developed. This application and the content of the data will be presented as a teaser.
