SIMULATE - Interactive pedestrian flow simulation

AIT – Austrian Institute of Technology (AT)

Have you ever tried putting a stone in a small water stream and observing how the flow of water changes? You can use a similar concept when simulating the flow of people in a metro station, changing the direction of an escalator, or setting up an obstruction. SIMULATE, the interactive pedestrian flow simulation of AIT, is based on general assumptions, such as individuals preferring the shortest path when feasible, navigating around obstacles, and moving at different walking speeds. You can observe the outcomes when the crowd size doubles, an accident happens, or a train service is disrupted.

AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is Austria’s largest research organization, excelling globally in infrastructure fields. With seven centers, it focuses on future infrastructure topics and collaborates as a specialized R&D partner for industry.
