Day 2: Between Innovation and Artificial Intelligence

GroKo_MahlerRemixed_tommesic(1),

The economic operators of the country invited to a think tank, the EU initiative STARTS showed itself in talks and project presentations, Fridays for Future is of course also available during the holidays, the animation community enjoyed animations in the POSTCITY for the first time and finally the audience could listen how an artificial intelligence completed Mahler’s 10th Symphony. In between, of course, the flair of the POSTCITY must always be enjoyed one last time and not to forget that there is also a life outside.

With a still fresh spirit it goes to GET.Inspired, the innovation forum of Ars Electronica. Here, interested parties from the fields of art, design, science and development meet with start-ups and companies for an exchange of ideas.

… as well as that of STARTS an EU initiative combining science, technology and art. Friday was already the second time that STARTS-Day, where interdisciplinarity is expressed in talks and presentations.

With Journey on the Tongue, for example, you can choose one of 12 different smells to go on a journey with. How? In a dark chamber one sits down in an armchair, shields oneself with earplugs and gets the chosen smell in the form of a sweet in the mouth. And then you have to experience for four minutes what is happening.

Another exciting project is Anatomy of an AI System, which represents the entire production cycle of a Smart Home Assistant – including human work, rare raw materials and data processing.

Now we have really warmed up, the mind is working at full speed and so it goes on to the main conference on the festival theme: Out of the Box – the Midlife Crisis of the Digital Revolution.

In different panels – “Creativity, Art & Education”, “Trajectories”, “Humanizing AI” – clever minds – like Lynn Hughes – give exciting lectures from different directions.

At 1.15 p.m. it suddenly becomes quiet in the POSTCITY. The whole festival pauses, visitors look around questioningly. Of course it’s not an unplanned blackout, no, it’s the young activists of Fridays for Future fighting against the Climate Shutdown.

The interruption of the festival is a call to action. The activists and festival visitors will leave directly from the festival grounds to kick off the demonstrations in the 2019/20 school year. The walk leads from the inner courtyard of the POSTCITY to the Volksgarten.

The Gallery Spaces in the POSTCITY are about more than just a new form of the art market…

…it is a format that deals with the presentation and marketing of art in general and digital art in particular.

Artists and gallerists exchange ideas at the Gallery Spaces Panels.

Big Concert Night, Credit: tom mesic

The traditional Big Concert Night, a cooperation with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, in the spectacular Gleishalle of the POSTCITY.

It took Mahler’s 10th Symphony, the Unfinished One, and had it completed by an Artificial Intelligence.

Creativity is not only a human being’s characteristic.

Spectacular pictures, wild dances with robots – this artistic evening with industrial chic will probably remain in your memory for a long time to come.

Afterwards the still not tired people met in the courtyard of the POSTCITY for the Nightline.
