Artists are addressing social issues in an artistic way, asking us questions in the form of their artworks. This can be called artistic journalism. An experimental series of courses discusses the role of art in journalism during a unique guided tour of the Ars Electronica Center. This online course at Keio University SFC, led by Hideaki Ogawa, Director of the Ars Electronica Futurelab, will tour the knowledge-sharing activities of the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, Austria, and enter into a dialogue with new sources of knowledge that can no longer be conveyed solely through books, newspapers and online media.

The focus of this first lecture is on Artificial Intelligence. Understanding AI, the main exhibition at the Ars Electronica Center, not only invites visitors to ask questions and discover new facts about AI. In addition to scientific explanations, the artistic applications and installations allow visitors to speculate about approaching future scenarios. Andreas Bauer, Managing Director of the Ars Electronica Center, and Ali Nikrang, AI researcher at the Ars Electronica Futurelab, will talk with Hideaki Ogawa about the collaboration between humans and AI and the bias of latter toward artificial intelligence.
Look forward to two more lectures in this series on “Alchemists of the Future”(Live stream on November 12, 2021) and “There is no Planet B” on November 26, 2021).
