G80 is an interactive installation that proposes a contemporary interpretation of Richard Buckminster Fullerโs World Game: a strategy simulation tool inspired by War Games, which aimed at an equitable distribution of resources on a planetary scale.
The artwork G80 by the collective Fragmentin draws on Richard Buckminster Fullerโs โWorld Game,โ an educational simulation addressing global problems. This interactive installation features a console with 80 motorized sliders, each representing variables like ecology, migration, and technology. Visitors adjust these sliders to simulate world stabilization, discovering the intricate interconnections between variables, revealing complex cause-and-effect relationships. It also confronts visitors with the challenge of balancing personal and collective needs and reconciling them with global demands. *G80* critiques the reliance on technocratic solutions in a techno-capitalist system. Without interaction, the sliders create geometric patterns symbolizing the persistent influence of underlying systems. The installation invites audiences to consider the tangible effects of abstract choices and asks them to visualize the real-world impact of their inputs in a technologically mediated environment.
