The fundamental principle of nature is: life is diversity. The more diverse a habitat is, the healthier it is. And this diversity also includes the smallest among us: microorganisms. Microorganisms are everywhere: in the air, in the soil and in the water. Every plant, every animal and every human being is also a habitat for these tiny organisms.

Science knows a lot about individual microorganisms, but it still knows far too little about the interactions in the microbiome, i.e. between the individual bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms. How the host influences the microbiome, how microbiomes influence their host or the environment, is also only partially known.
Through scientific research, we recognise how close and comprehensive the interdependencies between humans, animals, plants and microorganisms are. Travel with Dr Joseph Strauss, Gregor Gratzer (both BOKU Vienna) and Tanja Kostic (AIT Austrian Institute of Technology) into the hidden world of microorganisms!
