All Banana?

18:00 – 23:30
Open Workshop
Open Sound Studio, Level +2

Loud, high, low, shrill, sad or happy? With the help of technology, we play the banana piano and listen to what sounds are produced when we touch it. We turn the faders of various synthesisers. Visit our sound studio and try it out for yourself!

18:00 – 20:30 Open Workshop: DIY Seedbombs
Foyer, Level 0
Just one meadow flower can feed up to ten butterflies, bees or bumblebees. Insects that are of great importance for the earth’s ecosystem and ultimately also for human nutrition. In this workshop, so-called Seedbombs are made from flower and herb seeds as well as clay and water, which can be used to breathe life into traffic islands, fallow green spaces or dreary roadsides.

18:00 – 20:30 Open Workshop: The stuff rockets are made of
Citizen Lab, Level -1 (8 – 12 years)
Here, space becomes a research space with spaceships, rockets and satellites. But who has ever taken a closer look at such spacecraft? What are they made of and what requirements do the materials used actually have to fulfil? When experimenting with the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Spacecraft Materials Kit, the children become materials researchers and discover the building materials used in space travel. An interactive workshop by ESERO for young researchers. The workshop is organised by ESERO Austria and introduces you to the exciting world of technology and space travel.

Bio Lab, Level -1 (from 4 years accompanied)
Yes, you read that right, we have bears at the Ars Electronica Centre – lots of them! Our water bears, called tardigrades or tardigrades, are particularly interesting from a scientific point of view because they can cope with very adverse conditions. They are nurtured and cared for in our Bio Lab – what is their favourite food?

This workshop is all about the fascinating world of microbes: Invisible to the naked eye, these tiny creatures play a major role in our lives. Nothing works without them! What experiences have you had with them? Experiment with yeast and make them – poof poof – dance and … er … farting. You’ll also learn in a fun way that our bodies need microbes to stay healthy.
