MKD x nextcomic 2025: Students from the MKD – Master School of Communication Design Linz are presenting a colourful exhibition at the OK (Offenes Kulturhaus), the Ars Electronica Center and Deep Space 8K that takes up the topic ‘What makes me strong?’ in a playful and innovative way. The focus is on comics that tell of moments full of joy, self-confidence and personal strength, which give strength and open up new possibilities.
Admission free!
The works are realised in the flat illustration style – a minimalist, two-dimensional illustration style. Geometric shapes, bright colours and clear lines emphasise the energy of the stories. A wild and colourful overall picture is created.
The comics in the exhibition describe moments of personal strength: they show situations in which one is confronted with challenges and overcomes obstacles through inner strength, courage and determination. But they also show situations that bring calm, satisfaction and joy, are fun or energising. They are beautiful moments, small successes, emotional turning points and triumphs that convey the feeling of being charged with positive emotions and new strength. The use of augmented reality brings the comics to life and adds an animated layer that gives the stories an additional dynamic.
The comics are square tiles that are arranged to form an overall picture. Each tile tells a story in itself. The interplay of the works creates a dynamic, colourful mosaic, a kind of mural that offers an inspiring and interactive experience thanks to its strong visual presence and the combination of comic, text and augmented reality.
