Talk: Can a machine dream green?

Sat 31. May 2025 14:00 – 15:00
Kunstuniversität / splace am Hauptplatz

When we talk about machines, we describe them as artificially intelligent, we teach them to learn independently and we read their generated outputs as “dreams”. Yet although they are created by and for humans, we often question their actual usefulness and create dystopian future scenarios.

This program is part of STREAM FESTIVAL 2025

How do energy-hungry machine processes fit into a world full of ecological and social challenges? Can machines learn to be sustainable? Can AI help to create a greener future? And what role do our own dreams of a “better world” play in this?

In this talk, we ask our guests about AI, sustainability and creativity. With Martina Mara (Robopsychology Lab, JKU Linz), Ali Nikrang (Ars Electronica Futurelab, University of Music and Performing Arts Munich), Davide Bevilacqua (servus.at, media artist). Moderated by Manuela Naveau (Interface Cultures, University of Art and Design Linz)
