Worldwide, about 180 million LPs are produced from approximately 30,000 tons of PVC per year. The first bioplastic vinyl record is an environmentally friendly design solution from Evolution Music and enables vinyl recording without fossil fuels. For both the music industry and record collectors, it is a revolution.
To replace the harmful production and use of single-use plastics and minimize waste in the music industry, the solution uses the principles of the circular economy. The shift is facilitated by the manufacturing of bioplastic LPs (instead of PVC) using the existing machines and production processes of the record pressing plants.
Future If Future, by Michael Stipe, and Oh My Heart, by Beatie Wolfe, were presented in support of EarthPercent, the world’s first commercially available bioplastic 12-inch record.
