In 2017, Tactical Tech and artist Joana Moll paid 136 euros to acquire a million online dating profiles from USDate, a company allegedly based in the US.
The collection they bought contained almost five million photos, names, email addresses, and data on nationality, sex, and age, as well as detailed personal information about each person who set up a profile, such as sexual orientation, interests, profession, physical characteristics, and personality traits. The purchase of these data uncovered a huge network of companies that exploits the data of users without their informed agreement and capitalizes on them.
