The “The Universe Within” application, developed by the Ars Electronica Futurelab, fully exploits the potential of the walk-in experience space and turns the discovery of the human body into an impressive experience.
Whether organs, musculature, bones, the cardiovascular system or the nervous system – the interior of the human being is explored with vivid 3D visualizations.
The Ars Electronica Futurelab has incorporated several narrative strands into the program that take up different physiological processes in humans and make the functioning of the body comprehensible through facts, images and stories. The starting point for “Human Universe” is the 3D data material from Zygote Media Group Inc., a company specializing in the anatomically accurate three-dimensional representation of human beings.
A look at the immune system shows that not only oxygen but also dust, pollen, bacteria and viruses enter our body via the respiratory tract. What actually happens when you are ill? Another focus of “The Universe Within” is on the brain and the senses of perception. For example, the interactive virtual ear – originally developed by Ars Electronica Solutions for the “Audioversum” exhibition of the medical technology company MED-EL – shows how sounds and noises make their way through the ear to the brain. But also the human musculoskeletal system with its finely tuned muscles and bones is part of the presentation in Deep Space 8K – after all, we humans are programmed for movement. And last but not least, “Human Universe” is dedicated to a unique success story of life: procreation.
