Experience the Venus – a popular subject for painters such as Lucas Cranach the Elder – in high resolution at the Deep Space.
The German painter Lucas Cranach the Elder, born in 1472, is known for his numerous portraits and paintings of saints, as well as representations of Venus. The mythological figure of the goddess of love has been a popular subject for the portrayal of the female nude in Europe since the Renaissance. In collaboration with photographer Lois Lammerhuber, the painting from the Louvre can be viewed in high resolution at the Ars Electronica Center’s Deep Space.
