VFRAME (Visual Forensics and Metadata Extraction) develops special computer-vision software for human rights researchers, such as user-defined object-recognition models. These make it possible to locate specific objects such as illegal munitions.
However, since there are often not enough real images to train these programs on, VFRAME developed a new technique for building data sets for image training. It is a hybrid approach to combining 3D-modeled, synthetic data sets that are created based on real data. The tools allow the researchers to search for particular elements in images of war and conflict zones.
