System 2020
The SySTEM 2020 project tackled scientific literacy and STEM education of children and teenagers. By focusing on science learning outside the classroom and mapping the field across Europe, SySTEM 2020 supported future citizens in a world of fast-evolving science and technology. The project evaluated transdisciplinary programmes to design the best principles for educators, and examined individual learning ecologies by piloting self-evaluation tools. This study mapped practices in 19 EU countries, including in-depth studies in 8 of the countries, and gathered the input of 9—20-year-old learners from various backgrounds including those from geographically remote, socio-economically disadvantaged, minority, and/or migrant communities.
Within three years, several workshops took place at the Ars Electronica Center to explore the learning of 9-20-year-olds outside schools and universities.
