Open Futurelab presents the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s latest artistic prototypes, research results and future visions to the public at the Ars Electronica Festival. Visitors can get a glimpse behind the scenes through exhibitions, prototype demonstrations, talk sessions, workshops, performances, and guided tours with lab members.
Open Futurelab was launched at the Ars Electronica Festival 2018. The aim is not only to open up the lab, but also to create a platform for society, artists and Futurelab partners from around the world to meet, discuss ideas and actions for the future and create new manifestos together. During the Festival the Futurelab also presents its works in Deep Space 8K during Futurelab Night each year, including unique artistic performances and audiovisual experiences.
The roots of Open Futurelab lie in 2001: The Pixelspaces conference premiered, which was held annually until 2013. In pop-up manner, the Pixelspaces appeared not only at variable locations in the setting of the Ars Electronica and the festival, but also in the city center and the suburbs of Linz. They included symposia and exhibitions dealing with current issues in the field of digital culture.
