2019 marked the 450th anniversary of the death of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the outstanding painter of the Dutch Renaissance. Some of his most famous works, such as “The Tower of Babel” or “The Children’s Games” can be marvelled at and analyzed in Deep Space as impressive gigapixel images – and with the help of the website Inside Bruegel by the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, even the different layers of the paintings can be closely examined in gigantic dimensions using infrared and X-ray. Sabine Leidlmair and Armin Pils from the Ars Electronica Center will be using these tools to work together to discuss these iconic works from an art historical and artistic perspective.
