We are heading into a future that nobody knows, and there are difficult questions waiting for a creative response. Art Thinking is one of the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s methods for helping us develop a compass for the future in an age of accelerated technological development and unstable conditions.
While Design Thinking is widely known as an effective method for developing creative solutions, Art Thinking is much more capable for looking at problems from 360 different angles in order to develop new strategies and approaches towards the future. This is because art gets people to think critically, can open up dialogues and discussions, and can permanently change their perspective on the future. Art Thinking addresses the role of art in the 21st century. It is the process of applying artistic strategies to meet a wide range of societal and technological challenges with maximum creativity to foster innovation.
With Art Thinking, the seventh episode of the 25th Anniversary Series of the Ars Electronica Futurelab, Kyoko Kunoh, Artist and Key Researcher in the lab, invites you to discover the mindset of Art Thinking for yourself. She demonstrates a wide variety of ways to develop and advance innovations at the boundary between art and technology here in the lab.
