The Christmas story is probably one of the best-known and most frequently quoted stories in the world. This year, in the crypt of Linz’s St. Mary’s Cathedral and in the Ars Electronica Center’s Deep Space 8K, it was fully transferred into virtual reality for the first time. The carefully restored Linz Nativity by Sebastian Osterrieder was digitized via photogrammetry and restaged as an immersive, audiovisual and interactive 3D experience. Even at home, the virtual nativity scene provides unknown insights into the cultural-historical heritage. The staging of the ensemble within the Nativity architecture and landscape follows a three-part dramaturgical sequence that ensures a varied Christmas season. We wish you a Merry Christmas!
