Deep Space 8K

Three visually stunning dimensions, a 33 million pixel resolution and a high-performance laser tracking system combine to make Deep Space 8K at the Ars Electronica Center one of the most interesting digital experience spaces in the world. In the space between the two 16 x 9 meter projection surfaces on the wall and floor, visitors can experience a completely new dimension of virtual reality.

The 3D experience room offers a unique way of learning about a wide range of topics such as astronomy, anatomy, media art and cultural heritage. The brilliance of the colors creates an extraordinary space for exciting stories and immersive experiences, enabling a completely new form of knowledge transfer.

Once again, Deep Space 8K will have special highlights in store during the Ars Electronica Festival 2024. The thematic focus this year is on digital cultural heritage. This is where the future meets the past! State-of-the-art technology makes it possible for world-famous art and cultural treasures to be presented in Deep Space 8K in a way never experienced before. In the anniversary year of the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner, there is also a special focus on his incomparable music: together with a virtual version of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, visitors can themselves become part of his compositions. Speaking of music: in 2024, more performances than ever are on offer during the festival in Deep Space 8K. From dance performances to live music, there is something for every taste.
