Alexia Achilleos and Iyo Bisseck examine the impact of technology on structures of power and control, as well as colonial dynamics. Both artists approach these issues from a local perspective.

Artist Talks with Iyo Bisseck and Alexia Achilleos

In her Talk “The Drone behind the Falling Star“ Bisseck focuses on surveillance technologies in France, while Achilleos explores the role of AI, colonialism and geopolitics through artist games. After the lectures, the artists will be in conversation with Aileen Derieg.

    Aileen Derieg

    Aileen Derieg is a translator and media activist focussing mainly on free software with an emphasis on autonomous cultural initiatives. After decades of translating in the cultural field she retired in 2018 and has since intensified her work with initiatives such as servus.at, AMRO, Eclectic Tech Carnival, among others. Soon after having closed the chapter of professional translation, Aileen spent two years living in and working with the hacktivist collective in Calafou, Spain, before returning to Linz, Austria, full time.

    Alexia Achilleos

    Alexia Achilleos is a Finnish-Cypriot artist and researcher based in Cyprus, with a background in fine art, archaeology and cultural studies. By utilising AI processes and examining data, she aims to investigate such topics from a local perspective, through a postcolonial and feminist lens. Her work re-interprets dominant narratives and questions biases found within history, society, but also within AI technology itself, particularly challenging the idea of technology as universal and objective.

    Iyo Bisseck

    FR

    Iyo Bisseck is a multidisciplinary artist, interaction designer and programmer. Born in 1994, she lives in Paris and works between Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands. Bisseck’s artistic practice combines immersive digital environments, sculptural installations, animated images and video games. Their work is fueled by critical reflections on digital tools, highlighting their roots in a capitalist colonial logic.
