DUST TO DUST is a documentary offering an intimate look at Japanese haute couture designer Yuima Nakazato. Blending innovative scientific technologies with traditional material techniques, Nakazato is on a mission to shift fashion from mass production toward a more environmentally respectful approach—an urgent task in an industry notorious for waste and harmful environmental practices.

The film begins with Nakazato’s visit to Kenya, known as the “graveyard of clothing”, where he searches for answers about the fate of discarded garments. Inspired by what he discovers, he returns to Japan to create a new fashion collection, which he later unveils at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. Directed by Kosai Sekine, the film follows Nakazato’s journey, highlighting the challenges faced by Epson technicians in upcycling Kenyan garments into new materials using cutting-edge technology. The documentary showcases the collaborative effort to redefine the future of fashion.

The screening will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A with Yuima Nakazato, moderated by Manuela Hillmann.
