AI SPEC is an initiative that creates a space to discuss “a future living with AI.” In this exhibition, several possible futures are presented in the form of comics. Visitors are welcome to rewrite the stories and are invited to participate in an active dialogue to shape their own future.

AI has suddenly permeated our lives. We are now forced to face decisions about how to interact with AI in various situations; whether to use it as a tool or to be more cautious about it. We are now at a crossroads in deciding how to build “a future living with AI.

It is up to each one of us to change the tide. If each and every one of us continues to think and ask questions about the future, we will move closer to a desirable future with our own will.
In this exhibition, several possible futures are presented in the form of comics. For some, it may be unacceptable, while for others, it may be a world that is already happening.

The stories provide an opportunity to think of the future as a personal matter and start a discussion. What do you feel and think when reading the story? How would you rewrite the story?

Mitsubishi Electric’s AI SPEC project, in collaboration with Ars Electronica Futurelab and HAKUHODO Inc., adopted the “Re-Writing the Script” methodology. Using a story as a starting point, the project invites visitors to rewrite the narrative by envisioning alternative future scenarios in the form of “heterotopias” that challenge societal norms.

How will a story drawn in Japan’s animistic cultural background be interpreted and rewritten in Linz, the center of Europe in which a new AI law was introduced in 2024? This exhibition is part of ongoing research and will continue to evolve with the participation of visitors.
