TAFAA–TINA UNFOLLOW ALICE

Chloé Delarue explores the physical perceptions of our environments and their translations into virtual worlds. In 2021, she completed a dual residency at CERN in Geneva and at the astronomy facilities of the European Southern Observatory and the ALMA Observatory in the Chilean Atacama Desert. Together with Patricia Domínguez, the two artists immersed themselves in these unique scientific environments to engage with fundamental research dedicated to investigating the universe.

As part of the inauguration of the CERN Science Gateway, Delarue was invited to return to the Laboratory to conduct research for a new art commission, shaped by her exchanges with theoretical physicists. This work, TAFAA–TINA UNFOLLOW ALICE, is a video installation that establishes poetic and aesthetic parallels between the world of subatomic particles and the digital realm, exploring the notion of matter as the constitutive substance of our tangible reality.

    Chloé Delarue

    Chloé Delarue is an artist based in Geneva, Switzerland. In her practice, she observes how automation and simulation in the digital age alter our perception of reality, exploring the transformation of our bodies. Delarue’s installations and sculptures, including her extensive series TAFAA–Toward A Fully Automated Appearance, creates dense aesthetic environments that reveal the ambiguities of a world reflecting upon itself.

Chloé Delarue was awarded the Simetría residency in 2021, in the context of which she spent time working with scientists at CERN and traveled to Chile’s astronomical observatories ALMA-ESO. Following her residency, she was commissioned to create TAFAA – TINA UNFOLLOW ALICE for the exhibition Exploring the Unknown at the CERN Science Gateway in 2023.
