Live artist talks
Artists from the “Abducting Europa” exhibition respond to a set of key questions regarding Europe, Myths, Youth Culture, Populism and Art and give you personal introductions to their work. With Simon Denny (NZ/DE), Andy King (GB), Szabolcs KissPál (HU), Annika Larsson (SE/DE), Liliana Piskorska (PL) and Jonas Staal (NL/GR). Political fantasy, from myths of national rebirth to the esoteric dimensions of deep web conspiracy theories, these talks will discuss the use and abuse of history, the lure of a Golden Age, and alternative visions on Europe.
The political imaginary of Europe today is full of metaphors of struggle. Intentionally out of step with the times, new movements dream of national rebirth by promoting ancient myths. Paradoxically, some of these reactionary movements feel most at home online — with memes and flamewars — on platforms where conspiracy theories and radicalization take root. Abducting Europa explores elements of fringe internet culture, (post)national symbolism and various altered states of historical consciousness.
