AI: Sunshine Misses Windows

Garden has a long history as the form of art in Korea. Garden is more than a place for enjoyment of plants and other forms of nature. It embodiment of a philosophy of life. The garden reflects the transformation of a vaster cosmic universe. If we glimpse at garden with the lens of Artificial Intelligence, garden is the special time and space where nature and human beings coexist, society and human beings interact, and human beings and A.I. pursue co-evolution.

Garden inspires the refined expression of symbols and metaphors on the various elements of nature: sunshine, cloud, breeze, flowers, plants, and etc. Shinseungback & Kimyonghun carefully capture cloud, flowers and plants and human faces with the moment of consciousness and unconsciousness of a human and a machine through A.I.

Garden presents the deep dialogue on life, politics, and arts with friends. TeamVOID reinterprets data and create drawings and sounds with a robotic performance as the literati appreciated and composed poems and prose with calligraphy and paintings at the garden pavilion. Lighting at garden is the most atmospheric moment at evening banquet, TeamVOID notifies turning on a light is the elaborate process and challenge through A.I.

Garden provides the reclusive hideout for social distance under the pandemic Covid-19. As Yeom Jihye still asks questions on the rosy picture of a technology-based future, we understand human beings’ vulnerability and humbleness as a part of nature and redefine the identity and attitude toward art with science and technology for the better future of human beings.

Daejeon Museum of Art hosts Daejeon Biennale 2020 AI: Sunshine Misses Windows for a deep dive into resetting the new normal after Covid-19. We explore the dynamism of hyper-connectivity between A.I. and Arts and introduce new thinking about the co-evolution of art, science and technology for the better future. AI says that Sunshine Misses Windows. We reply that we never miss sunshine at garden.
