The “Mei guanxi” temple is an imagined digital world evoked through a series of rendered gifs, videos, and animations as part of artist Louise Zhang’s exploration of the dynamics of fear, anxiety and otherness through abstract and reimagined narratives. Working in collaboration with Tactical Space Lab, the work invites the audience to visit the temple as a place not dictated by a single narrative, but of multitudes and acceptance, and inhabited by a selection of Zhang’s sculptural works that have been scanned, modelled, and simulated using HoudiniFX to imbue them with life and motion.

Biography
Louise Zhang (AU) is a Chinese-Australian artist, whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture and installation. Her work negates the space between the attractive and repulsive. With an interest in horror cinema, particularly body horror, Zhang investigates the idea of the visceral as medium, method and symbol in negotiating horror as art form.
