Long Night of the Stages at the Ars Electronica Center
Saturday, June 2, 2012 / 6 PM-12 Midnight
(Linz, June 1, 2012) Raise the curtain on theater, dance and fairy tales! Once again this year, the Ars Electronica Center is hosting the Long Night of the Stages. Awaiting theatergoers both young and old are exciting narratives and musical artistry, impressive dance performances and spectacular visuals in Deep Space. Whoever would like to be a part of this year’s voestalpine Klangwolke can attend a workshop to produce letters of the alphabet that light up by remote control, or visit the new SoundLab and get an introduction to the world of audio production.
Here’s an overview of the lineup:
Klangwolke Werkstatt / 6-11:30 PM
Ars Electronica invites one and all to get actively involved in the 2012 voestalpine Klangwolke. Workshop participants can creatively design and construct illuminated letters, or record short pieces of music in the new SoundLab. The letters and sound miniatures will play key roles in the open-air extravaganza this coming September.
Ritter, Helden, Abenteuer / Claudia Edermayer / 6 & 7 PM
The top jousters face off in this Linz tournament. Only one is missing—Knight Etoile. He must rescue an enchanted princess but to do it he has to pass a dangerous test …
Papyrate’s Island / 6:30 & 7:30 PM
A pirate island rendered in 3-D is threatened with doom: a villain seeking to destroy the South Sea paradise. Only a combined effort can thwart this dastardly deed!
Gottlieb! Es brennt! / Gerti Tröbinger, Ruth Humer / 6:30 & 7:30 PM
This is a madcap dramatic conflagration for puppets and people, loosely based on Max Frisch’s play “The Fire Raisers.”
Picknick mit Othello / Gerti Tröbinger / 8-11:30 PM
Frau Bleimschein is at it again. Her picnic basket packed and her head full of old stories, she mingles with visitors in the Lobby of the Ars Electronica Center …
Bon vieux temps / Company ProArt / 8 & 10 PM
This encounter with the good old days deals with longing, unfulfilled dreams and the behavior of ladies and gentlemen of the upper class. A piece for four dancers
Die Ewigkeit dauert lange / Gabriele Deutsch, David Wagner / 8 & 9 PM
Forever lasts a long time! Then again, it takes quite a while to learn the fine points of wedlock. A humorous evening of theatrics and song
Best of Deep Space / 8:30 & 10:30 PM
Visitors experience a new dimension of the journey through space and time—immersion into a breathtaking domain of high-definition graphics and 3D stereo.
Was ihr wollt / Theater im Hof Enns / 8:30 & 9:30 PM
This company from the Upper Austrian city of Enns presents excerpts from its upcoming production of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.”
Absorption / Maggy Schlesinger, Hygin Delimat / 9 & 11 PM
“Absorption” is an interesting mix of performance art, dance, interactive electronic music & visuals, and a collage-like take on the concept of absorption on various levels of perception.
Beethovens Kreutzer Sonata Part 1 / Company ProART / 9:30 PM
A terpsichorean dialog for a dancer and two musical instruments: piano and violin
Schweinerei / Birgit Zamulo / 10 PM
Birgit Zamulo reads from Marie Darrieussecq’s “Pig Tales. A Novel of Lust and Transformation.” A woman morphs into a sow complete with distended belly, bristles and teats. It turns out that the male-dominated world loves her more than ever, and, little by little, her lovers—and others—become increasingly violent.
Die Liebe und die Mädchen / Julia Ribbeck, Christiane Schulz, David Wagner / 11 PM
Sensuously humorous love songs that provide sustenance for hearts and minds
