Semester Break at the Ars Electronica Center Linz
(Linz, February 15, 2013) The Ars Electronica Center’s jam-packed lineup of fun activities is a great way to keep boredom at bay while school’s out. On Interactive-Creative Days, kids age 10-14 learn lots of amazing stuff about working in a laboratory, and can use the AEC’s in-house BioLab to isolate their own DNA. Winter Camp held on three consecutive mornings offers 11-14-year-olds the opportunity to work with sound artist Marco Palewicz and compose their own music in the AEC’s professionally equipped SoundLab. And the next Deep Space LIVE on February 21 will screen a breathtaking Red Bull Media House documentary about skiing.
Interactive-Creative Days
Interactive-Creative Days at the Ars Electronica Center are designed for 10-14 year olds to discover what it’s like to work in a real laboratory. But what actually is that? Who works there and what do they do? The “All about Labs” workshop on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM will provide answers to these and other questions, and plenty of opportunities to get hands-on experience—for instance, using a pipette or isolating your own DNA from the skin inside your own mouth!
Winter Camp
Although the “Ma Boter und Ro Schine” Winter Camp for 7-10-year-olds is already completely booked, there are still a few “Sound Factory” openings for young music enthusiasts. In the SoundLab, the AEC’s professional-grade sound studio, kids age 11-14 have the opportunity to use sophisticated equipment to capture interesting new sounds, which artist Marco Palewicz will help them to turn into their own musical compositions. Winter Camp takes place on three consecutive days: Wednesday to Friday, February 20-22, 2013 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM each day.
