Family Night in the Ars Electronica Center

(Linz, July 11, 2013) The third edition of Family Night is set for Friday, July 12, 2013, when lots of Linz’s cultural and recreational institutions will be staying open late. The Ars Electronica Center is the place to go for family-style fun between 6 PM and 12 Midnight. Visitors both young and old can use their smartphone to fly a quadcopter through the Ars Electronica Center’s Lobby and enjoy a fascinating documentary film about American mustangs by Linz-based filmmaker Erich Pröll. In Deep Space Family, you can travel through outer space, draw characters and then bring them to life, and watch extreme athletes perform their daring stunts.

Phone the Drone
6-11 PM
Quadcopters aren’t just for military purposes anymore. Now, they’re flying R&D missions and have been enlisted by the entertainment industry too. Family Night visitors are invited to use their smartphone to fly a quadcopter through the Ars Electronica Center’s Lobby and put their maneuvering skills to the test.
Deep Space LIVE Special: Mustangs – Living Legends
9-10 PM
Linz native Erich Pröll is one of the world’s most successful nature filmmakers. This globetrotter has more than 100 mini-series and TV documentaries to his credit, including several featured in the ORF – Austrian Broadcasting Company’s popular Universum series. Now, Erich Pröll has succeeded in bringing mustangs, the legendary wild horses of North America, to Austria. Erich Pröll will screen his new film at 9 PM in Deep Space at the Ars Electronica Center.
Deep Space Family
Impressive expeditions into 2-D and 3-D worlds await visitors both big and small beginning at 6 PM. Best of Deep Space shows which applications can be screened in this facility. Uniview invites you to take a journey through outer space. In Fantasia 3-D, you can awake fantasy figures to life and explore interactive computer game worlds. X-treme Sports presents breathtaking clips of death-defying athletes at work—skiing, mountain biking and parachuting.
