(Linz, 4.10.2020) Discover the most resilient creatures on earth under the microscope, compose music with the help of artificial intelligence, explore historical sites with 3D glasses or learn all kinds of interesting facts about the functions of human cells. Young visitors to the Ars Electronica Center can look forward to an exciting program during the Kids’ Culture Week from October 8 to 18. Admission is free for children up to the age of 14, and participation in a workshop costs 2 euros. Workshop registrations at center@ars.electronica.art or 0732.7272.51 are required.
Kids’ Research Laboratory
THU 8.10.2020 / 01:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. & FRI 9.10.-SUN 18.10.2020 / 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. / For children from 4 to 8 years
Experimenting, making music, drawing and programming – in the Kids’ Research Laboratory, young children are introduced to the various thematic areas of Ars Electronica in a playful manner. This is the place where robots are programmed and controlled, animals are virtually brought to life out of Lego bricks, tiny creatures are discovered under the microscope and pieces of music are composed with the help of artificial intelligence.
Children Culture Deep Space
FRI 9.10., SAT 10.10., SUN 11.10., FRI 16.10. & SUN 18.10.2020 / 4:30 p.m. – 5.pm. / For children aged 4 and above
Explore historical sites in 3-D, marvel at fascinating time-lapse videos, get to know pictures from the inside of the human body or become active yourself with fun games. Deep Space 8K with its impressive 16×9 meter wall and floor projections has something for everyone.
Workshop: A lot going on in the moss
SUN 11.10. & SUN 18.10.2020 / 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. / For children from 6 to 10 years
Mosses play an important role in the ecosystem in many respects: When it rains, they store several times their own weight in water, can grow on barren soil or bare rocks and are the habitat for countless small animals such as mites, springtails, spiders, gnat larvae or beetles. Many of them cannot be seen with the naked eye, but under the microscope the moss suddenly comes to life. With a bit of luck you might even discover a tardigrade, the most resilient creature on earth.
Workshop: Super brain & Thinker’s forehead
SAT 10.10. & SAT 17.10.2020 / 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. / For children from 6 to 10 years
It weighs around 1.2 kilograms, is electrically charged, constantly collects information and also gives a lot of commands: the brain. At Super Brain & Thinker’s Forehead everything revolves around the structure and functions of the human control center.
Workshop: Cells
FRI 9.10.2020 / 2 p.m. – 4.30 p.m. / For children from 6 to 10 years
Cells represent the smallest units of living beings. Our body alone consists of more than 10,000 billion cells – and each of them fulfils a specific function. Children from the age of 6 learn about the structure of the cell and are told about special cells from which even heart and nerve cells can be cultivated.
