(Linz, 2/17/2021) As part of Ars Electronica “Home Delivery,” Ars Electronica is launching a series of new programs for schools. On offer will be a whole range of virtual and interactive workshops and guided tours for all types and levels of schools. Tools that are as simple as they are efficient open up opportunities for students to get actively involved and try out new things. “Educational programs are always successful when the participants are involved as much as possible,” says Christoph Kremer, Director of the Ars Electronica Center. “We’ve been pursuing this approach for more than 40 years, and it likewise drives our new digital offerings.” Thematically, it’s about how we deal with new technologies: Where can AI systems provide us with valuable services and where is their use problematic? What do we know about the state of our planet thanks to satellite technology, data analyses and visualization strategies, and what does this mean for us as inhabitants of the earth? And, and, and. Finally, the “create your world tour” contributes perspectives and methods of art. “Together with artists, many different creative formats are developed and tested each year within the framework of the Ars Electronica Festival. These complement the other educational offerings perfectly and are now benefiting schoolchildren as well, according to Hans Christian Merten, head of create your world.” “Thanks to the varied and interesting range of workshops and themed tours, the children and young people gain an exciting insight into the impressive world of artificial intelligence and its possibilities, among other things. A fascinating approach that I am happy to encourage all schools to take,” says Director of Education Alfred Klampfer.
A series of free workshops will be offered, led by artists and activists from the Ars Electronica network. All of the educational programs offered by “Ars Electronica Home Delivery” are summarized here and can be booked free of charge.

Across the Children’s Research Lab – the DigiTour
1st to 4th grade / Duration: 60 minutes
On this free virtual tour of the Ars Electronica Center’s Kids Research Laboratory, participants learn about current technological developments in a playful way and find out what impact they have on our lives. In addition, the children will meet Tardi the tardigrade, who is currently on a journey through the Ars Electronica Center.
Long since an everyday occurrence, and yet … – KI & YOU
From the 5th grade / Duration: 60 minutes
Artificial intelligence is on everyone’s lips. But what does the term really mean and how does AI affect our lives? In this virtual tour, students will learn about the basic workings of AI and also where this technology has already found its way into their everyday lives, and what dangers are associated with it.
Because we only have one home – PLANet B
From 5th grade / Duration: 60 minutes
Slowing down global warming is one of the greatest challenges of this century. It’s no coincidence that more and more people – especially young people – are committing themselves to protecting the planet and getting involved in the “Fridays for Future” movement. On the PLANet B virtual tour, students gain insight into satellite technologies, data analyses and visualization strategies and learn interesting facts about the measurable changes on our globe.
Hacking Humans for Space Exploration / Tinkerbells on Tour aka. Elke Hackl and Ute Wetscher (AT)
From 5th grade / Duration: 2-3 consecutive lessons
In this workshop, participants are given the task of preparing a mission to colonize the Red Planet. Obviously, a lot of questions arise – what are the living conditions on Mars and how do they affect us humans? Etc., etc., etc. In teamwork, the most important challenges are identified, solutions are developed and it is asked which hacks of the human body or which cyborg components could help to defy the adversities on Mars.
Space Messengers / Projecting Particles, OMAi (AT)
From 5th grade / Duration: 2-3 consecutive lessons
The Space Messengers workshop invites participants on an exciting journey through space and time. In this unique learning experience that combines astrophysics and media art, the mysteries of the universe are explored together from an artistic perspective. In-depth knowledge of astrophysics and quantum physics, prepared by an international team of experts, is explored in depth, while visual storytelling reveals the interconnections between research and artistic imagination. In addition, interactive projections and games vividly illustrate and deepen the content.
